issue: When I connect laptop / computer to the network (long cable) I am not able to access websites or network devices properly. When I ping to the remote device on the network I am getting request timed out in between proper replies.
Solution: The issue is related to your network cabling, when operating at high speed say 100Mbps and 1Gbps speed please make sure that the cabling standards are met and the length of the cable won't exceed the maximum recommended length. The quick solution for this issue is to run the network at a low speed if possible (From the network properties in the windows XP) and select 10Mbps full duplex mode instead of 100Mbps. If you still need a higher speed then use good quality of cable in proper CAT-5 / CAT-6 standards.
If the length of the cable exceeds the maximum length then try using repeaters (you can use another hub in between as a repeater).
If you can compromise on the speed then the easy solution is to operate at a low data rate (10Mbps)
